“Cyno,” Cyrus said, “do you know when your birthday is?”
The boy tilted his head. “‘Birth-day’?” he repeated, like it was his first time saying the word. Knowing his past, it probably was.
Cyrus tried not to think about that. “Yes, your birthday,” he said, trying his best to smile. “It’s the day that you were born into this world.”
“Oh.” Cyno fidgeted, tugging at the band around his neck. “I don’t have one.”
It took all of Cyrus’ willpower not to bite his lip at that as he felt his smile waver.
“…Well,” he said, gently, “that won’t do. We’ll just have to decide on one, then. These adoption papers aren’t going to fill themselves in, after all.”
