“Oh, uh,” Yeonjun replied dumbly, making panicked eye contact with his mother. “Dad, I… kind of already know who I want.”
“Hmph. I should hope it’s not that farm boy.”
“He’s not a farm boy,” Yeonjun retorted hotly. Under most circumstances he’d never dare to speak to the emperor this way– but if there was anyone whose honor he was willing to defend with his life, it was Soobin. “In case you forgot, Dad, he saved your kingdom from war.”
His mother laid a calming hand on the emperor’s arm. “Actually, I think it could be a good idea. The boy is popular, the people’s hero. A marriage like this could bolster our family’s image.”
“Fine. But I expect this to be done the proper way," his father grunted.Yeonjun hardly even dared to hope that he’d ever get this far with his family. Surely, he thought, the hardest part was already over. All that was left to do was ask.

Lines Soobin hadn’t worried about when studying the script for the chemistry read, but felt like jumping out of his skin with anxiety now. It sure was a strange feeling of intimacy, but one that made him feel extremely ill and unsteady on his feet.
Yeonjun stepped closer and closer and Soobin had to flex all his core muscles to keep upright and in place in order to fight his instinct to step back. Yeonjun’s gaze dropped to his lips again and tilted his chin up so he was within kissing distance. He was so close now.
