“You deserved it,” Susie echoed. She chewed on the concept, the edges of her voice frantic, her throat thick. “You deserved it?”
"Yes." Kris pressed her hand against their chest. They were shaking. Out of fear, or desperation, she didn’t know. “S’fine. It’s okay.”
Kris burned like a charred pan straight out of the oven, or an oil fire. Susie reeled away. “You—you were trying to set me up,” Susie accused, trying to edge words around the chasm opening in her gut. “You were trying to get me to hit you.”
Kris wants Susie to hurt them. They need her to hurt them. Susie isn't as on board with the idea as they are.

Susie knew music was important. It made you remember the things you forgot. It kept your feelings trapped in one place. It overwrote old memories with new ones. She didn't think anything of it when Toriel let her pick the music on the way home from the diner. Not until she really knew Kris.
Not until she realized Hometown was filled with things that already happened—things no one really wanted to talk about in words.

“You’re kind of good at this,” Kris murmurs, and they’re only half trying to get under her skin, really. It’s sort of genuine. Vaguely. Honest in a way that can only be induced by the weird vulnerability of upending the paltry contents of your stomach five feet away from someone.
“The fuck is that s’posed to mean?” Susie asks, but it’s got a little less of a bite to it than her usual retorts.
“It’s called a compliment,” Kris shoots back, “Ever heard of it?”

Kris and Susie are very much, absolutely not, under any circumstances, "friends" - regardless of the circumstances they find themselves in after school one day.
