Summary
Gwaine can’t stay in Camelot a second longer.
As soon as he manages to stand up on his own two feet, he’s gone. He leaves in the dead of night, with nothing but a note as goodbye.
He rides for as long as his body can physically endure before he needs to stop to throw up from the pain, force some water down his throat and keep going. And going. And going. The sun rises and sets and rises again, but Gwaine doesn’t dare stop.
He only has the vaguest idea about where he’s going, something Merlin mentioned once about where he might go if he were to leave Camelot which, of course, at the time they thought would never happen. Something about a lake by the mountains.
Gwaine’s well aware that there’s every chance that even if he finds the lake he’s looking for and even if that was, in fact, the lake Merlin meant, Merlin and Lancelot might still not be there. If they’re smart, they won’t be there. Or anywhere else Gwaine would know to look.
But still, he goes on. If he can’t find his friends, he’ll just return to the life of the wanderer.
The only place he can’t go is back.

Summary
An alternate ending to 4x05. When Merlin interrupts Arthur's negotiations with Queen Annis she agrees to Trial by Single Combat, but only if Arthur's servant is the Champion. With little other choice Arthur must agree and face losing his longest and oldest friend. But as much as this has turned Arthur's world into chaos Merlin seems strangely confident.
Or: Merlin is the champion for Camelot in 4x05 instead of Arthur and fights the best way he knows how. Magic Reveal.

Summary
Set sometime after S1E2. In the midst of tense treaty negotiations, a visiting nobleman takes a violent interest in Merlin and threatens the servant's budding trust in his prince.
“I don’t appreciate being told what to do by a servant,” he growled, pressing his meaty fingers into the crevices of Merlin’s throat and lifting him onto his toes.
Merlin tried to squeak an apology through an airway too obstructed to function properly...Just as Merlin determined he’d need to use his magic to save himself, Oswiu dropped him with a grunt. “Tell your master not to send his servant to do his dirty work.”- Language:
