“Yeah, unless I don’t finish my degree.” It’s a grumpy little mumble, barely meant for Yelena, but she responds to it nevertheless.

“What do you mean?“ she demands. “You only have a small amount of time left! Why would you stop now?”

“I don’t know,” Kate murmurs, and Yelena is bewildered to hear a faint echo in her own emptiness, coming from nearly six thousand kilometers away. “I just don’t really know what to do now, I guess. Clint says I’m the new Hawkeye, but that’s not official or anything. And even when it is, it’s going to be a lot of training. So I’m waiting to wait, or something, and — and I don’t know why I’m talking to you about this, actually.”

“Sometimes, it’s nice to just talk,” Yelena thinks and then says. “But I don’t think you should drop out of school, Kate Bishop. School is cool.”

“I don’t believe you. You prefer me—“

“Compliant?” Rio stood slowly, her eyes never leaving Agatha’s face. The action put her inches away, her body heat radiating out, searing Agatha’s skin. “Obedient?”

Agatha’s hips shifted against her will, her lips parting slightly. She closed her eyes against the heady mortification that razed through her chest. She felt Rio move closer and she parted her legs without thought.

Rio stepped between them but didn’t touch, hands settling on the desk inches from Agatha’s hips and hands.

“You always were such a brat.” Rio’s breath was hot against Agatha’s ear, her voice throaty and raw and filthy. “You never knew how to do what you were told.”

Or: After five years away, a still-grieving Agatha is dragged back into the FBI and the arms of her ex-wife.

“You saw an angel? As in the biblically correct - multiple eyes, terrifying celestial being-”

“No!” Diego stomped his foot, this was clearly a serious matter. “The pretty girl type.”

“The pretty girl type, huh?” Ava hummed.

“Yeah, she was so nice and pretty and she had a really nice smile and… and, and…” Diego fell back dramatically on his bed, arms spread-wide as he let out a long sigh like the dashing romantic leads in Sister Gretchen’s costume dramas.

“Is she a new girl at the orphanage?” Ava inquired, imagining a girl with pig-tails and a gap in her front teeth who laughed at Diego’s jokes.

“No. She’s a nun.” Diego corrected, lifting himself up on his elbows to peer over at Ava.

“A hot, kind nun.” Ava whistled, chuckling to herself in disbelief. “It's like a double rainbow.”
