Their mates, however, are sometimes surprised when he reveals just how deeply he cares about them.

And were it their cool leather combat boots, the slight rasp to their half-assed apology, the embarrassed flush of their face under the moonlight, or how their dark hair hung in front of their eyes as they continued to set up their gear, Guy wouldn’t have been able to tell you exactly what it was that ensnared his full attention to laser-focus on them. He wouldn’t have been able to give you the specific reasons of why the little astronomer had now played a role in his wishful daydreams. Distracting daydreams- for God’s sake, the man was so engrossed in their presence that, one night, he drove right off without taking an entire payment. His boss wasn’t too thrilled. Guy didn’t care.

The two of them get distracted from their movie, of course, in favor of more…intimate activities.
Afterwards, with messy hair and sweat sticking to them, Gavin chases them into the shower, still laughing softly when they’re under the spray together. The freelancer leans into him underneath the water, their bodies pressing together like puzzle pieces, and he thinks he's never felt this content.
