The history books had it right, Tony thinks bitterly as he rests against Liagoth's massive side, the smooth slide of scales and the warmth of her inner flame a stark contrast to the steel walls of the cell he's just been rescued from. He'd been a fool, to let them get so close, to think he had any family beside his dragon and Pepper, beautiful Pepper who's asleep in the richly appointed room behind him, courtesy of the Asgardians who'd been so eager to offer asylum to one of the last Dragon-Chosen in the nine realms.
The history books had it right, when they wrote about the emperors and kings of old, toppled from their thrones. He rose to the top of the world, only to be torn down and betrayed by those he considered his nearest and dearest.

Tony doesn't show any interest in the slightest in animals, he's never had a pet and doesn't show any understanding of the appeal of having an animal. Truth is Tony's a mutant with shapeshifting abilities. He can only take nonhuman forms though, so any kind of animal he likes, he can be. As in, he's his own pet.
+1 If the team thinks Tony's got multiple pets because he randomly shows up in various domestic animal forms
+5 If Tony just smirks at them when they ask and JARVIS tells them Tony's never had a pet in his life
+100 if animals are attracted to him, all kinds of animals not just domesticated ones
+the internet if Tony defeats a villain using his mutation, whether to attack or beat them with adorableness

Tony Stark doesn’t remember the day the world’s outlook on Weres changed. He’d spent the better part of three decades hiding half of who he was and suddenly, almost overnight, it was okay to be a Were.
Centuries of persecution can’t be erased by a few laws though, and Tony knew there were thousands, just like him, who still hid their nature from those around them for fear they’d be hunted and captured for experimentation or killed. Or even worse, to be sold as a pet to the highest bidder.
