Bucky wordlessly gestures for Steve to hold up his sign, a request he’s all too happy to oblige. He unfolds the scrap paper, revealing the hastily scrawled text in the middle.
LIFE
Neither one of them makes a sound as Bucky pulls up a song on his phone, skipping to the chorus. The tinny sound erupts from his speakers, barely loud enough to be heard over the murmured chatter surrounding them.
“Life is a highway,” Tony drones over the mic, sounding utterly unimpressed.
It dawns on Natasha first, realization lighting up her sharp features as her expression morphs from smug to downright delighted, a shocked laugh escaping her.
“And I wanna ride it all night long..!”
Or; As far as creative costumes go, Bucky’s certain this one takes the cake. The follow-up isn’t too bad, either.

Summary
It had been four weeks now since he came back from his trip through time. And exactly half a year since he'd told Bucky don't do anything stupid till I get back, with the full intention of not coming back at all. It was only because Peggy had knocked some sense into him that he'd realized he was making a huge mistake in trying to change the past and decided to come home. Steve had reappeared on that platform a changed man, running back to the Avengers' Compound with his tail between his legs and claiming that the second time heist had gone awry.
Bucky had taken one look at him and known. He was the only one who knew that Steve hadn't planned on returning to the present, but he didn't speak a word of it to anyone. Instead, he'd hugged Steve and welcomed him back with open arms.
Present Perfect, or how Steve stopped being a dumbass and learned to love Bucky.

“I thought maybe you’d go to her.”
“What?” Steve asks. In the dim light filtering around the curtains, Bucky can see Steve turn to face him, but can’t see his face. He can guess though, that adorably confused expression he gets sometimes that always makes Bucky want to kiss him.
“When you went back to return the stones,” Bucky hurries to clarify. “I thought . . . well, I know how much you miss her. You can’t tell me you didn’t consider it.”Or: Bucky doesn't understand why Steve wouldn't have used the time travel as an opportunity to live out his life with Peggy (like the idiot movie writers thought, although at least Bucky has the excuse of insecurity), but since the thought literally never crossed Steve's mind and also Bucky is very vague, Steve misunderstands the question and thinks he's asking if he went to visit his mother.
So his reasons not to are basically "I didn't want to mess with time more than I had to and also how would I explain that to her" and Bucky is hurt because he thinks that means Steve would have ditched him for Peggy if he could have which is . . . not the case
