A silence stretched between them.
“I was alone, before I met you,” Ronan’s voice was the softest Adam had ever heard it.
“Yeah,” Adam replied, just as soft. “Me too.”or: it’s 1990(ish). adam is a grad student and ronan is not. they go to the same book club. they meet.

Summary
Niall grabbed a crate of dirty glasses, about to head to the back to load it up and check on his wife, when he clocked it. Ronan was leaning against the bar, cheeks rose-colored, holding back a smile. He was talking to an American boy, one Niall had first served before he switched over to handle the rowdy lot that came in after him. The kid had to have been around Ronan’s age, young and bright-eyed like a man who still had dreams for the future. He was tan with sandy, dusty colored hair, and a matching smile as he spoke back.
“Jesus, would you look at that,” Niall whistled low to Declan, who was wiping up the bar beside him. “Ronan’s found himself an American.”

“Carry pretty boys? Not as often as I’d like,” he replied, obviously grinning. He squeezed Ronan's thighs with his hands. The little fucker.
“You know, I could very efficiently choke you in this position,” Ronan retorted, and he immediately knew that it was the wrong thing to suggest.
“I’d prefer you do that in a different setting.” Adam answered, expectedly.
“You have no fucking chill,” Ronan said, but he didn’t say it like you have no fucking chill, rather like I like you so much please don’t stop flirting with me.
