Summary
The end of exams brings about the reveal of student voted superlatives on the uni's unofficial gossip Twitter account and Soobin discovers that he and Yeonjun won Cutest Couple. The only problem is they aren't *actually* a couple, just childhood besties who grew up together in their little beach town. So what if Yeonjun is extra snuggly with him and Soobin thinks his hyung smells really good? They're *just* friends and he's grown tired of people mistaking them for something more.
Then Yeonjun makes a radical proposal: the two of them date, *really* date, if for no other reason than the ability to tell people they tried and it didn't work. Soobin goes along, deciding it can't be any more annoying than dealing with all the comments they get (not to mention he's admittedly been single for a while and it would be nice to have a partner again, even briefly).
Cue the magic of summer and all it entails: fireworks in the sky and behind his eyes when he kisses Yeonjun, waves of the ocean and of pleasure as they cross lines friends shouldn't cross. There's bonfires and barbecues, short shorts and popsicles, and along the way Soobin realizes that mixing love and friendship is as dangerous as diving during high tide...

Soobin feels something slam into him from behind with enough force to send him careening toward the cobblestone. The unmistakable sound of glass shattering fills the air as an escaped vial of viscous purple liquid is crushed underfoot, and for a moment his heart stops pounding. In fact, he swears it stops beating altogether.
“Oh shit, sorry mate!” Choi Yeonjun calls over his shoulder. All Soobin can do is watch helplessly as a semester's supply of Wolfsbane Potion trickles uselessly across the platform.
Ah, he thinks. So this year is going to be a disaster after all.
(Or: Soobin has to face his seventh year at Hogwarts without any Wolfsbane potion to keep his Lycanthropy under control--and the only person who can help is also the reason he's in this mess in the first place.)

There was a wave of murmurs that went through the crowd, and Soobin heard a woman’s wail. He couldn’t feel his body anymore, and he couldn’t hear the rest of the soldier’s speech over the buzzing in his ears. His sister’s hand found his, and she held it tightly. He looked at her. Arin, who was the only alpha left in their family. Arin, who had a painful limp from when she’d been injured in the same merchant’s accident that had killed their parents.Arin, for whom the draft would be a death sentence.
The sunrise was just starting to bleed into the purple sky when Soobin made up his mind. He couldn’t let his sister, who’d already given up so much for him, make this sacrifice too.

It’s almost like you don't want to admit what’s happening to you, but surely that can’t be the case.” Yeonjun’s other hand landed on the omega’s hip as he spoke, the contact making Soobin’s head spin. “I don’t think that betas usually go through preheat, do they?”
“Aw, look at your cute little brain trying so hard to keep up,” Yeonjun crooned. “Let me explain it in words you might be able to understand, baby.”
He leant down to Soobin’s ear, his breath hot on the omega’s neck. “You’re going into heat, bunny, and your body wants hyung to help you out. Would you like that?”
The best kept secrets just that- secret. They're hoarded, treasured, kept under lock and key.
Now if only Soobin's heat cycle could get that memo, that would be great, thanks.

Yeonjun always ranks first. Always.
And Choi Soobin – his gorgeous, overachieving, infuriating rival, – is always second. Again.It’s become a routine, at this point. Yeonjun at the top of the academic rankings, Soobin just below, glaring at the list like it personally betrayed him. For everyone else, it’s predictable. For Yeonjun? It’s thrilling. Addictive. The tension between them is practically its own language now: sharp words, lingering glances, victories that taste way better when Soobin’s watching. So when Yeonjun leans in with his usual smile and teases him, he expects irritation.
“Looks like someone’s second… again,” He says.
What he gets instead is Soobin turning to him slowly, eyes glinting, lips curling into something dark and amused. He leans in, close enough for Yeonjun to stop breathing, fists clenching in anticipation.
“Funny,” Soobin murmurs, voice low and smooth, “because outside university rankings it’s always you under me.”
Rivalry was fun. Obsession was inevitable. But falling? That was never part of the plan.
