Summary
Rumi was never meant to stand in the spotlight, she belonged to the shadows, carrying scars no one was supposed to see. Mira has lived her whole life in the glare of it, polished and untouchable, even as her world threatened to crack beneath her.
When Rumi is assigned as Mira’s bodyguard, neither of them expected more than duty and distance. But what begins as obligation slowly unravels into something neither expected.
As danger closes in and secrets surface, both women are forced to confront what it means to trust, carry scars, and to risk everything for someone who might just matter more than survival itself.

Summary
In hindsight, it should have been obvious. The way Rumi refused to go to the bathhouse, her bizarre relationship with Celine, this whole thing with the Saja Boys? Mira prided herself on reading people, and she felt stupid for not seeing it sooner. The pieces were all there, just waiting to be put together.
Rumi was gay.
The night after the joint signing with the Saja Boys, Mira went to confront Rumi about her ongoing weird behavior. Instead of letting hurt feelings drive the conversation, Mira took a minute to try and figure out what might be wrong. Unfortunately, she came to the completely wrong conclusion.
Misunderstandings ensue. They talk it out.
For better or worse, everything changes.

Mira marveled at the emotional intelligence on display.
Despite the Hunters’ creed claiming they slayed demons, their weapons didn't seem capable of inflicting permanent harm on them. Demons were banished back behind the barrier of the Honmoon, and Mira swore she had fought the same annoying water demon multiple times. Then again, just because they didn’t die didn't mean it was pleasant for them to get stabbed by magical soul weapons. Mira would keep her compliments to her friends.

"So, why the rule?" Mira asked, fully leaning into being nosy.
Rumi busied herself with the paper. "I don't tattoo girlfriends because I'm not going to be responsible for someone's shitty, permanent decisions." She glanced happily at Zoey. "My fiancée, on the other hand, is making a perfectly shitty and permanent decision already, completely on her own. She found a loophole."
Mira glanced back to Zoey, who sent her a wink and then turned her attention back to Rumi. "Makes sense."
"Okay, take off your shirt."
Zoey's fond smile quickly morphed into a wolfish smirk. "Whoa, Rumi, we're not alone."
