Alec Lightwood has a secret: he has hidden from everyone that he has the tattoo that bears the name of his Soulmate and has convinced his family and friends that he is a “Bondless”, meaning someone who doesn't have a Soulmate. He has spent his whole life avoiding his siblings' inappropriate questions about his romantic relationships and their attempts to couple him with someone. However, when Isabelle and Jace bring him to a “Lonely hearts agency”, whose purpose is to find Soulmates for those without tattoos, Alec is persuaded to go along with them so that his secret will not be discovered. So the agency arranges a date for him. When he goes to Hunter's Moon for his first date, however, he finds someone he had given up on finding. Someone he has tattooed on his heart: Magnus Bane.
