Tommy has always wondered if he is unlovable, if the reason that nobody loves him is because they can't, not because they choose not to. But in the realistic part of his brain he knows that that is not true, he knows that it is because an artist has no place in a family of athletes, singer-songwriters and directors.
And the little things keep piling up: and the weight keeps pulling him down. And Tommy can't stop falling once he's started.
