Summary
There was something about this moment - just before the storm, when everything went still - that felt almost holy. Like the world holding its breath.
Then he heard it.
Faint, but sharp. A thin, warbling sound carried on the wind.
He froze.
Whistle.
Not birdsong. Not wind. Not anything natural. That was a whistle - one of those emergency ones, the kind you bought in a hiking store and hoped you’d never need to use. Three quick bursts. A pause. Then three long ones. Then three quick ones again. Someone was out there.

For three years, the silence of his remote mountain cabin was everything Daryl wanted. He had a life built of solitude and self-reliance, a world where the only person he had to answer to was himself, but that silence is shattered by the arrival of Rick Grimes - a city man with a busted ankle and no business being in the wilderness - just as the first big snow of the season hits. Trapped together in the suffocating closeness of the cabin, Daryl tells himself it’s temporary. He tells himself it doesn't mean anything. He tells himself it's just until the snow melts.

Summary
When they emerged from behind the van, a crossbow was pointed at Dean’s face.
He grinned and said with no small amount of sarcasm, “Heard you could shoot a squirrel through the eye every time?”
Daryl glared at him. “Sure as hell can shoot ya from here.”
“You sure could,” Dean said as he examined the other man.
He had on thick canvas trousers and a flannel shirt with ripped off sleeves. A leather vest settled over his broad chest. Dean couldn’t help but notice how thick his arms were. His dirty blonde hair was wet with sweat and grime. His eyes were sharp, fluttering between Dean and Sophia, judging him, and measuring the distance between them. His arm didn’t waver no matter how long he held up the heavy crossbow.
For the first time in a long time, Dean felt the stirring of attraction.

Summary
Slowly, the man raised his hand to pull at the bandana covering the lower half of his face. “Daryl?”
“You two know each other?” Rick asked. His gun was still raised and aimed at Paul, but his body was starting to relax.
“We should do,” Paul answered, sparing a darting glance back at Rick before locking eyes with Daryl again, looking hesitant, like he didn’t know what to expect. “Considering I’m his husband.”
“You - “ Rick looked at Daryl, bewildered. “You’re married?”
“By accident,” Daryl hurried to state.
“Happy accident,” Paul piped up with feigned cheer. His bright tone was easily belied by the hurt Daryl could see in his eyes. “Although, the fine state of Georgia doesn’t recognise it.”
“Ain’t recognised here, either. Goddamn Virginia,” Daryl grumbled.
“Ah,” Paul grinned, his posture relaxing. “But step a toe over the line into D.C…”

Summary
There’s silence for a long moment. Through all of it, Castiel closes his eyes; it’s dark, blissfully so, calming after everything that’s happened today. His first day as a human. Days used to be so obsolete – to an angel, they weren’t enough to compare them to a blink. They were nothing. But to humans… a day is long, and drags out, and feels like forever now.
It’s likely only midday. It feels like a week must’ve passed, the weight of it crushing. But no, it’s only been a few hours.
How do humans do it? How do they survive this?

Summary
Spidey hadn’t made it to patrol since getting that text message. As much as Wade valued their time together, he could understand that sometimes, too much Deadpool left a really bad aftertaste in one’s mouth. It had been a perfectly reasonable assumption that the webslinger was doing his own thing on the opposite side of the city, and he’d come crawling back to Wade when he needed a good laugh or a midnight meal, or both.
Wade should have questioned that logic. Three days wasn’t a long time to take a break from someone like Deadpool, but it was a long time to be missing.
There was a small, folded-up square of paper alongside the costume. Wade felt like he was cracking open a fortune cookie, only instead of some vague shit that applied to everyone and no one at the same time, it was two words scribbled in thick sharpie.
