Summary
A wild, happy laugh breaks the calmed ambiance of the backyard. Mika turns his head, expecting to see a new group of his classmates ready to pick a dog for the day, but instead sees Yuu, sitting on the ground a few meters away.
He’s surrounded by the red Shiba Inu puppies. Yuu’s laugh gets carried in the wind as the puppies try to climb on him, pawing and barking excitedly at him so they get his attention. Some have already succeeded on their climbing; there’s a puppy at the top of Yuu’s head, trying to eat a rebellious lock of black hair, and another one making itself a bed on Yuu’s hoodie, body as close to Yuu’s nape as possible. Yuu smiles at all of them —four in total —and tries to give them as many belly rubs as possible.
Mika’s heart stops beating, dead inside his chest for a whole minute, just to start beating frantically a second later.
