Summary
They were an intrepid team of monster hunters, to begin with. Dauntless fighters against the dark, fearless foes to the forces of evil, nagging bits of grit under the nails of the nefarious, etc. etc.
But it didn’t take that long before they began to realise that evil didn’t always wear a monstrous face and twisted figures did not always hold a twisted heart.
After that, things got a little bit complicated.

Summary
Technically, Martin didn’t have to work. He had his official certification of being a Rift survivor, his meagre government cheque - which would just about keep him in baked beans and secondhand jumpers - and his eagerly pouncing memories, which clawed into him at intervals and dragged him down into spirals of horror and despair.
But it turned out that he didn’t do so well without a solid occupation and that his self-worth remained directly tied to his perceived usefulness, whatever his several therapists had to say on the subject.

Summary
Martin is restless.
That is hardly new. It’d been a few days since the world changed -since Jon changed-; the passage of time is mostly meaningless in this brand new hellscape, but that does not mean it is not still felt in one way or the other.
Martin has been patient. After all but barging through the door with Jon’s name on his lips, finding him gasping for air on the floor as everything changed -as Jon changed-, Martin had been a downright saint. Holding him while everything got rearranged, tiny piece by tiny piece, smoothing down Jon’s sweat damp hair, murmuring mostly meaningless reassurances.
Martin has been understanding. Jon’s mostly quiet, these days, still trying to fit all that he is in a single container of flesh and bones. Rerouting his thoughts to work with a human brain. Testing the edges of his consciousness.
It is a lot of work, Becoming.
