Summary
Bronte isn't sure joining the Council is the right idea when half the Lost Cities seem to hate him, but when a certain Councillor convinces him to give it a try, it leaves him wondering why he cares so much.
Fintan couldn't help but be attracted to Bronte, really. But as the lines between attraction and love blur he has to fight to keep his emotions in check, all while being visited by a black-cloaked figure who keeps trying to recruit him for a cause he's having trouble ignoring anymore.

Fintan is cold and world-weary, and when he breaks out of his prison, there's only one place for him to go. The Lost Cities hates him, even the Neverseen abandoned him. His only option is to call on an old pal.

”Why are you really here?” Fintan asks, soft and contained enough to not quite threaten the tension hanging in the cool night air.
”I told you,” Bronte replies, equally as calculated, though he silently worries the unspoken pact between them has already been broken. “I’m making sure you aren’t causing chaos. That you’re behaving as you should.” He doesn’t meet Fintan’s eyes.
”I don’t believe that.”
(Fintan and Bronte talk for the first time in a very long while. It does not go quite as smoothly as either of them hoped, and some things come out that would not have been said otherwise.)
