Lorenz had spent a fair amount of time in his childhood studying the bed frame of the Gloucester marriage bed. The carven images, the auburn stain. He'd thought he'd be one day taking a wife to that bed.
Now, instead, he would be taken to this one. The von Reigan marriage bed. With its deer motifs and vines and dark wood stain.

Claude chose his next words carefully. “I think what matters is what you do going forward. War… does horrible things to people. I’m not exactly proud of everything I’ve done or every decision I’ve made either. But we have no choice but to keep moving forward. And you deserve a chance to move forward too.”
“I think there are many people who would disagree with you on that,” Dimitri grimaced.
“Probably,” Claude said. “But I was the one who got the chance to save you, so I did. And I’d do it again.”
Claude saves Dimitri from Gronder Field, but Dimitri is in a horrible state. As Dimitri recovers, he has to find a place for himself in the new world they're hoping to create. Dimitri doubts he has a place in a peaceful world, but Claude will be there by his side.
