When Will was a young fawn, all he ever wanted was to grow up as proud and strong as his idol, the Prince of the Forest, Jack. And then one day he wandered off the path and into the strangest pool he'd ever seen. It was red as those sharp roses whose thorns Will had learned the hard way not to eat and smelled like the metal that he'd seen two-legs leave behind. It takes a few drinks to realize that it's blood. Summary
Soap is a PhD student, doing his research in Antarctica on the behaviors and hunting habits of leopard seals. During his expedition, he becomes obsessed with a leucistic seal, who he's taken to calling Ghost.
His attempts at tagging Ghost for tracking purposes have all failed, leaving Soap frustrated, but determined to try again. He won't stop until he gets the data he needs for his dissertation.
At the same time, Soap is stuck in an escalating, heated flirting match with a hydroponics employee at another base. It's foolish to form romantic relationships with someone he knows will vanish from his life once their expeditions are over, but there's something fascinating about this man that he can't ignore.
