Summary
Bruce knocks softly on the door before nudging it open. On the opposite hip, he reaffirms his grip on Damian. His youngest son nuzzles into his neck, affectionate in a way Bruce only dreamed of when the boys appeared on his doorstep.
“Morning, Jay,” he murmurs, seeing his second oldest blinking blearily in the early morning light. “You need to get up,” Bruce reminds firmly. He sweeps a hand down Damian’s spine, stilling the boy a moment.
Jason stubbornly stays put.
His older son squints and Bruce realizes that his usually blank look is a genuine lack of comprehension. His pale, sweaty features take on a new meaning.
Bruce takes care of his children on a sick day.

Summary
Jason drops his hand. Dick blows the smoke out slow, sweet rotting staining the air lightly, so different from the heavy scorch of warehouse smoke. They stare at the twisted oak tree. Jason cracks first.
“I didn’t know you smoked.”
Dick hums, taking another inhale. Smoke passes between his lips as he answers. “I didn’t know you did, either.”
Jason shrugs. He doesn’t mention that he had tried smoking leaning against the fire escape of his apartment, that it had ended with him curled up in a shaking ball pressed against the rotting tile of his bathroom floor, fingers scraping at long healed scars.
--
Jason will smoke. He will. He needs to. Dick doesn't let him do it alone.

Summary
“Hi,” she says in a breathless rush, then takes a moment to swallow and wet her lips. “I, uh, need your help?”
“Are you dying?”
“N-not exactly.”
“Then you don’t need me,” comes Jason’s lazy, uninterested reply.
The call ends with a click.

Steph doesn't know what's more embarrassing: that she's been locked in a closet during a party, or the fact that her "friends" aren't really her friends. And to top it all off, Jason's the only one who can come rescue her.

Summary
"Mom overdosed again two weeks ago," Jason said. He was clearly trying to keep his voice flat and emotionless, but resentment spilled through like water in an oversaturated sponge. "So we're out of Narcan." They hadn't had Narcan, when Willis had… left. "The landlord's turned off the utilities and he's kicking us out in five days if we don't catch up on the last three months of rent."
"Okay," Willis said. He knew how he was supposed to follow that up. Thank you for telling me. I'm here now, I'll take care of everything. I'm sorry. Instead, what came out of his mouth was, "What happened to your face?"
OR: Knowing it wasn't enough had never stopped Willis Todd from trying.

Summary
It always ends the same way: a kid who had to grow up too fast wearing a stolen name, injuries that imply a slow and painful death, a ticking bomb that makes it quick.
Jason Todd keeps going. It's not a pretty thing.
