Everything ached and burned across Clark Kent’s entire body, every muscle trembling as he sagged into restraints around his throat and wrists, the creeping numbness from being forced into the same position for hours steadily traveling up from his knees to his thighs with each endless second. Each crawling minute. The tears from earlier had dried into tracks against his bruised face, dark lashes stinging; each breath came shallow, halting, a faint wheeze rattling his frame every now and then. Even thinking was…was suddenly hard, so very, very hard, and yet as Clark rested in his cell with its harsh throbbing red glow and the faint buzz of something humming away its windowless walls, his heart a dull, roaring thud in his ears, he had just enough energy left in him to keep returning to that thought spiking through the fog.
