Summary
“You truly think I don’t let my walls down around you?” Sylus asks. He’s serious when he says this, despite the smile on his face.
“I’ve never met someone so uptight.” I say nonchalantly, reaching up to pet Mephisto again, who is still perched on my shoulder. Sylus hums in response, averting his eyes as if he were in deep thought. “You’re wrong, kitten. But it seems you don’t know any better. I’ll have to prove it to you.” He says, and returns his focus to the table in front of him.
“What is that supposed to mean?” I say, confused. Sylus just simply hums and says “Be patient, sweetheart. You’ll get your answer soon enough.” He picks up the wax figure again and continues his carving, signaling that the conversation is over. I sigh, irritated, and get back up to resume reading my book. Compared to learning about Sylus, simply reading a book is boring.
“He’s so weird.” I say to Mephisto, who squeaks and preens his feathers enthusiastically.
Or: MC doesn’t believe Sylus can be vulnerable, so of course he chooses the most over-the-top way to prove her otherwise.
