Spencer remembers the good days, before the booze and the complications. Ethan had been playing on his keyboard one evening; a simple melody straight from his memory, that nevertheless brought tears to Spencer’s eyes.
“Are you sure you wanna join the FBI?” He teased. “Jazz seems to be your calling.”
Ethan didn’t laugh. Instead he cupped his soft hands around Spencer’s sharp jaw, pressing their foreheads together softly.
“There’s only two things I’m good at in life, Spencer." He whispered. "Writing music and loving you.”
Spencer wondered if he knew then that he would leave.

New words were being added to the other ghosts’ endless murmurings (for that was what they were, Dave had realized, eventually; they were dead, and he was dead, and there were no choirs of angels and pearly gates, just this weird, dusty limbo of jostling not-bodies and ceaseless groaning over unfinished business). For the first time, the ghosts murmured about something other than themselves. They were talking, instead, about a boy: a boy who could see them, speak to them. Maybe help them all get out of this place.After Dave dies, he meets a little boy without a name who can see ghosts. He's strangely familiar.
