    Summary

Throughout the seventies, John writes letters to Paul to let out all of the things that he can never actually say. He never intends to send them, of course. In retrospect, maybe he shouldn’t have addressed them and put the stamps on, although in his defense, how was he supposed to know that Sean would go through his drawers and decide to put them in the mailbox?

    "Why are you doing this?"

Aziraphale's voice is faint, his breathing uneven. Crowley doesn't lift his eyes to see the sickly look on his face, the twist of pain where only joyous smiles should ever be.

"Bandages need changing", he mumbles, eyes fixed firmly on his working hands.

"No. I meant-" He can hear as Aziraphale swallows. "Why do you care for me?"

It isn't just 'why do you take care of me'. It's 'why do you still care at all'.

Crowley has to close his eyes for a second, makes sure Aziraphale doesn't see.

"Cause you're here", he says, voice carefully detached, "and you're hurt, and you need someone. And that someone's gotta be me."

    "Why?"

He won't answer that. He can't answer that.

    "Don't ask stupid questions."

    ~oOo~
Or, the one where Heaven punishes Aziraphale the only way they know how, Crowley is there to help pick up the pieces, and maybe they can actually build something new and much more beautiful from both their broken shards.

“We’ve played every game humanity’s ever invented, haven’t we?” They had indeed played quite a variety of board games, card games, word games, et cetera. Crowley had drawn the line somewhere around charades.

“We haven’t played Truth or Dare,” Aziraphale said with unnecessary dramatic emphasis.

Crowley took a moment to gauge whether or not Aziraphale was serious. It appeared that he was. “Come off it.”

“What’s wrong with Truth or Dare?” Aziraphale asked innocently.

    “That’s barely a game.”

“The magazine said it was a good way to ‘introduce novelty and fun, and to initiate conversations that you might not have had otherwise,’” Aziraphale recited.

That’s exactly why it’s a bad idea. Especially this many drinks in.

    ....

During lockdown, Crowley and Aziraphale resort to Truth or Dare to alleviate the monotony. The truth may be dangerous but, as it turns out, may very well set them free.

    “I don’t want to talk.”

    “Can’t we just-”

“No. Aziraphale. It’s been three years. You went away. You’re back now, I guess, which is … well, it is what it is.”

    “Crowley, I-”

“No. You can stay if you want to, but I’m not talking about it. About anything. I’m going to stay right here, in my bed.”

    -

Or: Aziraphale returns but Crowley refuses to talk, so he must take alternative routes to get him to forgive him.

    Summary

It was Chauncey, Stede thinks. He led me out to the woods and said all these things about how I was a plague to my family, to you, and I shouldn’t have believed him, but I did, and then he shot himself and I was just running, I was halfway to my old estate before I realized and then I didn’t stop, I’m so sorry, Ed, I’m so sorry....
It’s the truth, and suddenly Stede would rather have Ed run him through than have to say it aloud. The idea of seeing Ed’s reaction to how weak he was, how frightened and helpless and wrong, is unbearable. Anyway, it’s Stede’s fault for running off, not Chauncey’s, so he can just...not mention him.
    --
Or: What if Stede didn't tell Ed about Chauncey, even when his trauma keeps trying to catch up with him?
