My first day under the Princess of Hyrule was astoundingly unremarkable. Elevated from my previous service by the head housekeeper, Mrs. Ria, who never liked anybody and, I thought, especially not me, I soon found myself led to the princess’s chambers to learn under the senior maid. Elanor desperately wanted to leave the princess’s service and was told in no uncertain terms that breaking her contract with the castle without first training a new maid to take her place would result in a forfeiture of her last month of wages. I assumed that Elanor simply wished to leave the service to marry one of the guards, since she spoke of them often enough at mealtimes. I could think of no other reason why anyone would give up such a covetable position as Princess Zelda’s lady’s maid.
I was soon to learn the truth of the matter.
