The applause this time was much louder, a wave of excitement rippling through the room as Maya made her way to the stage.
“Maya Bishop became an Olympian… that tracks,” Carina whispered to Vic.
Vic frowned at her, “have you… been under a rock? Well, were you under a rock in 2012?”
“Italy may as well be a rock when it comes to American sporting achievements,” Carina laughed, eyes trained on Maya who was walking over to April, “damn, she’s not as scrawny any more, huh?”
“Oh you have no idea,” Vic laughed, “she’s now a Deputy Chief with Seattle Fire.”
