Summary
The tall one attacks without ever taking his hands out of his pockets: glowing pyramids sparkle into existence beside him and shoot into the Neighbors, leaving smoking craters and knocking them sideways, forcing them to turn away from Chika. Inukai is running around to the side with that almost skipping gait as he shoots so that the front one's attention is divided. And then like a flash of black lightning the third man arrives, cleaving the Neighbor's eye in two with a long sword. It falls like thunder.
It's all over within what feels like less than a minute. Three monsters the size of buildings, and they didn't stand a chance. They have to be Border agents. She never knew Border agents could do that.
Chika joins Border a bit earlier.

Summary
They all bring back maps of distant places, kingdoms of faraway lands to show to Hollow and Myla and the remaining lives of the ever-fading town. Some beautifully drawn (Ghost), some sloppily sketched (Tiso), some marked, some blank of text yet elegant. They show them off with their tales that sound like fantasy to her, like imagination running wild within the Empty fields beyond in order to bring some hope back, maybe. She doesn’t have anything to show; miles and miles of ash and grass.
“I hope you’ll have better luck next time!” Myla says, in that still-shaky yet entirely, painfully sincere voice of hers.
Then, they move on to Tiso. Hollow’s eyes bore into hers for a long moment but they, too, eventually turn their attention to the ant.
What did you see?They called Hallownest the one and only kingdom; they also called it eternal, and leaving its crumbled, rotting remains behind to venture into the Wastes yet again, Hornet wonders how many more lies they told.
