In Hobbit society peace and plenty is viewed as more valuable than passion and riches. Marriages are thought best when they're settled, warm affairs between friends. That's why Soulmate marks are thought of as a mark AGAINST a marriage-match...
Dwarves on the other hand, view a soulmate as a blessing from Mahal. If a dwarrow is so lucky as to be born with a mark they spend their life searching for their One. No wealth or jewel is thought of greater value than a soulmate.
So when Thorin and Bilbo meet and see each others marks?...

Summary
Thorin Oakenshield agrees to an alliance of dwarves, men and elves against the enemy approaching Erebor. But he makes some demands and one of them is for Bilbo Baggins to be tried for the theft of the Arkenstone, accordingly to the dwarvish law. Bilbo is taken into Erebor as prisoner and Thorin is going to learn that many things can still be stolen.

He didn't realize that he would be creating quite possibly the oddest family in Middle Earth. Summary
Clint Barton has gone his whole life wondering who bears the mark that defines them as his soulmate. He’s just about to give up hope that his soulmate has died, long ago, when the Winter Soldier is found again and brought back as Bucky Barnes. Bucky sees Clint's arm and the mark it bears and instantly claims him as his soulmate. So now, on top of being a superhero and still getting over Loki's mind control, he has that to deal with.
Clint's life is such a mess.
