If there was one truth about Shadow, it was that always stayed on task. His focus was as sharp as a blade, his hands always landed where he intended them to, his attention always where it needed to be, his eyes only observed relevant sights and his ears picked up information as clearly as the stones in Rouge’s gem collection.
He was precise, as acute as the red laser from his sniper.
That all came crashing down in a pile of ash and destruction, crushed and stomped on (by incredibly powerful legs), on a Tuesday afternoon.

She apologized for moments that haven't happened but knew would come. Moments where Longclaw would have another episode and will forget Maureen altogether, moments where the pain in her heart would be too much and spill onto her daughter (Holy shit, her daughter. Longclaw wasn't even sure she should be calling her that).
Longclaw was raised for taking lives, not nurturing them.

Shadow was kneeling on one knee, his back was partially facing her, and she sighed softly as she watched her friend trap his H.E.A.R.T. in a grey metal box. He flinched when he snapped the lid shut, there was no doubt he could still feel the organ even after it left his body. The box was far too small for said organ, deep red liquid seeping between the lid and container and dripping onto the floor. Shadow locked it, wildly tugging at the metal several times to determine it wouldn't open. He turned around to look Rouge in the eye, brandishing a golden key.
Rouge looked back into those eyes. They were more open, his pupils were shaking and his breathing was choppy. Frantically, he took Rouge's right hand, placed the key into it, then covered it with her other hand. He held both her hands tightly with his own shaking ones.
“Please,” He begged. He's never begged before. “Please get rid of it. Throw it in a fire, in the Ocean, in the Sun, I don't care. Just get rid of it.”

Summary
Shadow is very particular about his coffee– he has to have it made just right or it won’t be good at all. That’s why he saves money and carefully crafts his own at home. But one morning when he’s running late to G.U.N., which never happens (he slept in after having a strange dream of swirling blue and green), he has to stop by a random coffee cabin on the way. He picked something off the seasonal menu that sounded acceptable.
When he takes his first sip while riding away, he can’t help but whip his head around to look back at the small coffee shack to sketch it into his memory. No one ever made it the exact T that he did, they either used too much syrup, or drowned out the espresso with too much milk. He could taste the bitter flavor of the espresso and fragrant flavor of lavender, paired with the slight sweetness of honey to balance it out.
It was the best thing he’d ever had.
Who made his order again? A hedgehog like him- but blue, with striking green eyes. Why did that sound familiar?Or: Sonic owns a small coffee shack “Sonic’s Speedy Sips” and Shadow becomes a very loyal customer.

Sonic leaned into Shadow’s space. 'Yes, Shadow?' The smugness in Sonic’s voice could have been thick enough to butter toast.
'Did you put labels—with incorrect names—on everything in the house?'
'Hmm...' Sonic tapped his chin. 'I don’t know if I’d say they’re incorrect, they still describe what the things are! And I don’t know if I put them on everything... Like, I don’t think I put a label on the floor... Oh! Lemme do that real quick.'"
OR
Sonic gets his hands on a label maker that Tails had. Shadow is slightly annoyed. Silly shenanigans and sweet moments unfold.
(Also a lot of talking, because I like writing dialogue apparently, and also because one of my favorite things is when these two just TALK)

It’s been over a decade since Sonic disappeared. Shadow’s searched all he could of the world’s lands, and has almost exhausted his search of the high seas, until luck leads him to a remote island. There, he hears a voice singing just down the beach he lands on, and goes to investigate.
**This was originally going to be two parts, but I have lost my motivation to work on this story. I've been trying to work on chapter 2, and while I have some done, it feels more like a chore than anything. I really want to get back to my other fanfics I feel much more passionate about, so I decided I'd mark this as complete, as I technically could here. It'll just be a bit open ended. I apologize for shelving this fic.**

2) He's pathetically in love with the city's resident heroHowever luckily for Shadow, based on the intel he’s gathered, vigilante Sonic shares Shadow’s grudge against the Police Chief for kidnapping his little brother.
Good thing they're both excellent at solving problems. Together. While pressed against each other. For completely professional reasons, of course.
