She's growing sick of the sight of fields, of the same looking flock of birds that hover in the blue sky.
Anger overrides the realization that tears are welling in her eyes. The promise she made to not cry about moving last night thrown out the window like her entire life was when the painful migraines of her horns sprouting started.
Why? Why did this have to happen—was this karma for something she's done? Been too rude to another kid?

Summary
It was…strange. Seeing Adaine in her current state. It wasn’t unusual to see her hurt, no, it wasn’t that. It was seeing Adaine hurt and being able to do nothing strange.
The hospital gown, the oxygen mask over her mouth, the IV line in her only arm, her disheveled hair that still had the tint of red from the blood. Bandages covering her in almost every inch of skin that Kristen could see. Blankets wrapped around her hands and feet that were a different, more red shade than her usual pale color.
Kristen was a cleric for Cassandra’s sake. A Saint, self-resurrected herself, died twice, and lived. Yet as she looked at Adaine, her best friend of nearly four years, one of the first people she bonded with because of their shitty biological parents, she found a home with.
She was helpless.

Going to prom?" Adaine reiterated. Holding the hairbrush in one hand, Boggy in the palm of her other.
Aelwyn groans, her eye-roll already predicted by Adaine. "I mean doing this 'date' thing with Ayda and Fig, dear sister."
Adaine's heart tightens; it's been doing that for a few weeks now. Adaine isn't sure why yet, however. “I’m doing a favor for them—”
“By pretending to be their date for prom?” Aelwyn cut in. Her icy stare through the mirror made Adaine look away in seconds. “Dear sister, you’re fooling no one—”
“I have no clue what you’re talking about Aelwyn,” Adaine snapped back, her voice louder than expected by either wizard.

Ayda and Fig want to go to prom, yet, they need a "date" to do so since neither are offical students. Adaine painstakingly takes them, at the consequence of a realization and complicated feelings.

Adaine hiccuped, more so a drunken one then a sad one. Wiping her eyes with her arm while one hand held the frog. “B-Boggy, if a-anything happens to you–” Adaine broke down into another sob.
“Adaine?” Fig whispered, though it was enough for the wizard to hear. Adaine’s pointed ears twitched, her head shooting up at the sight of Fig and Kristen in her doorway.
