In the end, Zhuo Yichen had laid himself out in the bedroom, where very little has changed: not the mountains steady outside the window, nor his family’s shrine against the wall. He sits in the water of a new fishpond—legs stretched out beside him, hair spilling unbound across his shoulders, two pale horns curving up from his temples. His head rests on his arms, which rest on the stone lip of the pool.
He doesn’t look like he’s in pain. He looks as if one day he laid down and had simply gone to sleep.

" When I looked at him. He looks so lonely in this big world. I felt his pain and fear which was hidden in the depths of his heart. His dark eyes, brimming with tears, glimmered in the moonlight, as if reflecting the vast depth of the night sky and the aching sorrow he struggled to conceal.
In that moment, for just a fleeting second, I understood and felt his pain-the kind that tore him apart from the inside, piece by piece. We were alike, bound by the same throbbing wound in our hearts.
When people are consumed by unbearable pain, they cling to anything that might dull it, even for a moment. And then it struck me: perhaps he was merely coping with his suffering in his own way.
This realization made the hatred in my heart waver. It could no longer burn as fiercely as before. I could no longer hate him or place blame upon him."
