Summary
Her fingers curl slightly against the hem of her skirt, and she wonders what it would be like if, by some impossible stroke of fate, she could look up and see him there again. Brows furrowed, wearing that same semi-perpetual frown. Mumbling a hearable glutton because of how much food she piles onto her plate. Tossing another blunt remark that would make her roll her eyes and stick out her tongue.
The thought lingers too long, too much, and she perishes it before it can take shape. Like clockwork.
Xiaoyu acknowledges something a year too late.

“What would you do if I did?” she retorts with a playful tilt of her head. A rhetorical question, though she can’t help the smallest tinge of curiosity that slips into her words.
He lightly scoffs, before his semi-permanent frown deepens just a fraction. “Catch you. What else?”
Xiaoyu gets homesick almost a year after moving to Japan.

And now, I am trying my utmost to understand you, understand your past, and you…” She trails off, unable to keep going, and Anthony wonders if she is so distraught because of the storm or because of all their near-misses and almost-kisses.
“Have you not looked back?” Anthony asks, abandoning his pretences of decorum, for it is evident that Kate is not maintaining hers. “Every single time, are you truly telling me you felt nothing in return? Because if you did… if you felt nothing, tell me right now and I will walk away and we can agree that this conversation never happened.”
Set during and after the 2x04 library scene. What if Kate didn't walk away from Anthony when she did?
