Carmen. The root of this inner turmoil. The foundation of her dilemma. It’s all his fault, really. The anxiety she’s been feeling all started a few days ago, and it had been trapped in her abdomen ever since.
After repressing how they felt about each other and having to skirt around their tight kitchen at the Bear, and finally having a moment to themselves that wasn’t interrupted, they were pretty rabid with the way they pounced on each other. However, there was something about Carmen that made her want to be more romantic and in tandem, more openly sensual. And, much like she did when they were both cooking in the kitchen, she wanted to try her damnedest to impress him.

It’s just how it is these days. How he is. He used to be Rick Grimes, the loving father, the devoted husband, the well-abiding citizen. None of these titles fit him anymore. He’s grown more succinct or perhaps just shrunk into being less: Rick Grimes, the survivor. There are his children, their late mother, his group, his family. He thinks about everything he has to do for them, all of the things he might not be able to do. So funny: no more rationing food, no more rationing ammunition, no more watching his steps. So much free time, and he chose to spend it doing one of the most useless things he could do. Worry.
He sees a woman in a white dress. He must be losing his mind, truly, because his first thought at seeing her is not whether she poses a threat or what she’s doing here. Far more base, and far more simple. He thinks that she’s pretty. Refuses to linger on the word angel. She seems, he thinks instead, like the antithesis of an apocalypse survivor.
Or: Rick meets Michonne and the world starts again to make sense.
