Then Fitz gets the idea to view the security camera footage from the last time he and Jemma interacted, and what he sees sets in motion a dangerous spiral of guilt and a quest for answers so obsessive that it’s starting to cost him.This fanfic idea was sparked by this line in S3:

After Fitz wakes up from his coma, it becomes clear that he’s not the same. When before, he could’ve performed hour-long speeches about science to people he didn’t like, now he has trouble speaking more than a few words to even people like Jemma and Skye. But it’s not just that. He starts to fall apart in other ways too and the team notices. The shadow of Ward’s memory looms over Fitz’s shoulder like an ever-present ghost, and it bleeds into everything he does.
So the team gets him a psychiatric service dog, a Vizsla, whom Fitz names Sunny. Fitz and Sunny form a strong bond, and she is a perfect addition to the team. Fitz’s anxiety doesn’t disappear, but it sure as hell gets more manageable with a furry friend at his side.
Even the mere mention of Ward puts Fitz on edge. The team realizes this and makes an effort not to bring him up when Fitz is around, but even when someone slips up, Sunny is there to calm Fitz down.
So it’s a damn good thing that Sunny is there for him when he finds Ward in the basement.
