Sometime between Eddie’s first apartment after Myra and his second, he adopted a fucked up looking rat of a dog that Richie thought might be some sort of chihuahua, but with longer, stringy patches of hair. The dog’s name was Rager, and he had a broken front tooth and sometimes had to wear what looked like a wide cloth belt but was actually a diaper, just so that he wouldn’t spontaneously piss all over Eddie’s New York City apartment. The apartment in question cost $2550 a month and absolutely should have housed an art dealer and his two greyhounds, but instead Eddie paid the rent so that Rager could live in style on the Upper East side.

“I’m Richie, by the way,” he says, offering his hand. The guy looks at him a little warily before sighing and reaching for his outstretched palm.
“Eddie Kaspbrak,” the guy says, and when he grasps Richie’s hand in his, Richie feels something judder into place deep in his brain, like tectonic plates coming to rest in their interminable slide, like pins realigning themselves in the barrel of a stuck lock, like the skittering needle on a turntable finally settling into its groove. It shivers out from his spine, raising goosebumps on his arms and the nape of his neck, but when Eddie lets go, he forgets that it was there at all.

Summary
Bill is still sitting on the floor, back against the wall, where he was leaning and then just sort of deflated. “I don’t know what to do now,” he says, his eyes unfocused somewhere above Bev’s head. “I feel like I’m late for something, but I don’t know what.” A hank of hair falls in his eyes, that gray streak in the same place he used to get summer highlights from long days spent lazing in the quarry or the woods, so even now he doesn’t look old so much as sun bleached. The patina of age is shimmering on all of them.
“We need to get rid of the body,” Mike says.
