No, he’s not scared Eddie will be mad at him for his feelings. He’s more worried about a future where Eddie’s uncomfortable around him, where they dance around each other at every loser gathering because the head-over-heels, balls deep, I-carved-our-initials-into-the-kissing-bridge love is unreciprocated. He thinks that that new, horrible awkwardness would be the death of him. Between having Eddie and living with this secret forever or telling him and ruining everything, it’s not even a choice.
or, Eddie Kaspbrak is looking for a place to stay during his 4-week work retreat in Los Angeles, and of course Richie, in all of his generous, hospitable, dumbass glory offers his place. It goes about as well as you'd expect.

“Oh, hey, there,” Richie says in a low voice, smiling through the mirror. “Fancy bumpin’ into you at a place like this.”
He smells like the weird organic soap he’s been using lately (hemp seed and a mix of essential oils) because he is convinced that he alone can be the end to pollution and global warming. Eddie doesn’t know how so much goodness can fit into one person.
“Of all the bathrooms in all the towns in all the world,” he murmurs against Richie’s back in his best Bogart, which is nowhere near the caliber of Richie’s but gets him smiling just the same.

He’s still thinking about what Ben said as he turns the token in his fingers, I kept it in my wallet echoing in his head and making him feel oddly unsettled.
“This is a token from the Capitol Theatre,” he says quickly. He goes to throw it in the fire, but something stays his hand. A feeling of wrongness he can’t place.
I kept it in my wallet.
“You brought an actual token?”
For twenty-seven years.
The sudden headrush he gets looking over at Eddie is overwhelming as the memory snaps into place. It’s like the wind has been knocked clean out of his chest, a feeling like deja vu but with a stronger emphasis on nausea that has Richie fearing a repeat performance of the fire escape at his last show.
“Fuck.”
