Summary
Sometimes, Seawatt would catch the faintest glimpse of him at the far end of a street, his golden presence unmistakable even from a distance. The sight would send a spike of panic through Seawatt’s chest, and he’d disappear into the nearest building, slipping through alleys or hallways until he was sure Evbo was gone.
He knew Evbo was giving him space. Knew Evbo could find him in an instant if he wanted to. That only made it worse. Seawatt didn’t want the space. He wanted… what? For Evbo to drag him back? To demand answers? To scream? He didn’t know. But every time he caught a glimpse of that golden figure, the shame would come roaring back, raw and unrelenting.

Evbo froze, his sword at the ready. The room was small, its cracked tiles littered with shards of stone and broken glass. The pale light from the runes cast uneven shadows over a figure chained to the far wall.
The man stirred, his head lifting just enough for Evbo to catch the striking gleam of sharp violet eyes, luminous and arresting against his haggard, weathered face. Black curls spilled from the loose braid trailing down his back, their inky sheen stark against the white of his robes. A gold crown, weathered and fractured, perched on his head—a relic of faded nobility clinging to him like a haunting shadow. Around his neck hung an intricate golden necklace, its centerpiece a totem that seemed almost alive, glowing faintly in the dim light. Matching bracelets adorned his wrists, their brilliance undiminished by the chains biting into his skin. His dark blue cape rippled faintly with each shallow breath, a regal contrast to the desolation surrounding him. Despite the marks of hardship, there was an ethereal beauty to him, so arresting that Evbo’s heart stumbled.
