“I didn’t know where else to go.” Tim said, tears once again filling his eyes.
“Your actual house, maybe.” Jason said. “With your brand new family of people who actually give a shit about you?”
Tim shook his head, lip wobbling and damn if that didn’t hurt Jason’s chest. He would give anything to go back to that house, even if Jason knew that he would never be welcomed back. He wasn’t the same anymore; Jason had hurt people. Had killed people. Hell, he’d been killed too and he was not the same and he could never go back there but Tim could and yet he’d come here instead, in the middle of the night, to a safe house of basically a stranger when he was in serious trouble.

On some level, Bruce felt as if he always knew that his hands were clumsy, not clever. They weren’t made for wiping away the tears on children’s faces and tucking them in. They couldn’t envelope people in a warm hug or pat their shoulder.
And yet, he tried so desperately. He tried to hug his babies, to kiss them goodnight, to tell them how much he loved them. But yet, no matter how hard he tried, there was one he couldn’t bring himself to hold.
