Summary
Robert can’t understand how he got here.
One minute, he’d been dozing on the sofa at home, suffering the hangover from hell – or perhaps the beginnings of a bad stomach bug. Feeling sorry for himself and wishing he had Aaron there to make him a brew and play with his hair, probably whilst teasing him for not being able to handle his drink in his old age.
The next, he’s slowly waking up on a hard floor, back to the corner and facing a dark and musty room that he doesn’t recognise.
or,
Canon divergence where Robert is the one who Lachlan kidnaps in 2018.

Summary
It’s after his third session with his new therapist in Leeds that Robert sees her. He’d sat in Vic’s car for 30 minutes after the session ended, staring into space and waiting for his brain and heart to stop racing. For his hands to stop shaking. Of course that puts him right in the middle of rush hour traffic, a river of immovable vehicles in front of him.
He’s been sat in the one spot for nearly 5 minutes when he finally turns to look out of the passenger side window instead of staring at the brake lights of the car in front of him, and there she is.
Sarah looks… haggard. It’s not a word he’d normally use for his 20-year old niece, for any 20-year old really, but it fits. She looks like she’s been put through the ringer, exhausted and sad, and sweaty in the late summer heat. She also looks like she’d rather stick pins in her eyes than talk to anyone, and Robert’s ready to look away, pretend he hadn’t seen her for both of their sakes.
In which Sarah Sugden gets therapy, tiktok famous, and her uncles back together.

Summary
Robert’s breathing gets worse before it gets better- shallow and erratic, like his body can’t decide if it’s trying to fight or run or shut down completely.
Aaron doesn't dare move closer, but he keeps his hands visible. Makes sure Robert sees all of him. He keeps talking to Robert, voice soft and steady, like he's talking someone down from a ledge- because in some ways, he is.

Aaron and Robert are together, and Kev is out of the picture, but his affect on Robert isn't.
Prison in general and Kev in particular have left a heavy mark on Robert, heavier than he allowed himself to admit. Good thing Aaron is with him, every step of the way.
