Summary
Technically dating or not, though, Makoto had confessed to him. And while Kazushi had been decidedly less confident when it came time to respond, he had done more or less the same. If they weren’t on the same page, at least they were somewhere in the same chapter, and that’s good enough for Kaz.
With that in mind… if Makoto’s taking the day off from studying, that means he’s free, right? That would make the most sense. And if he’s free, that means they could go somewhere together. Like a date. A first date. Which is fine – expected, actually – for them to do at some point, because they’re dating.
Kazushi takes Makoto out on a date.

Summary
In many ways, they’re incredibly similar. In other ways, they’re complete opposites. This is a fact Shinjiro accepted and put to rest years ago.
Aki’s an early bird; he’s a night owl. Aki likes to be proactive about studying; Shinjiro, to put it mildly, almost never studies outside of the exam season. Aki will down the most unholy concoction so long as it’s quote-unquote ‘healthy’ then wrinkle his nose at ramen unless the toppings are nutritious enough to justify eating it, whereas Shinjiro doesn’t care if a meal is a little fattier than it ought to be so long as it tastes good.
Which is to say that even though they’ve known each other since kindergarten, they’re not really in sync the way you might expect.
Their taste in movies seem to edge on neither of these two extremes. Aki’s preference of run-of-the-mill action flicks isn’t abhorrent to Shinjiro, but because it’s what they almost always watch, it’s hard not to get sick of them.
Shinjiro and Akihiko go to the movies.

Summary
It’s not that Akihiko is eager to get it over with. There’s just this little restless bug in him that just won’t leave him alone, one that needles and itches at him and which makes it impossible for him to deny the fact that he does, in fact, want it bad.
But Akihiko is a man of action. If Shinji’s going to dance around around the issue like this, then he’s just going to have to take matters into his own hands.
Plus, hopefully it’ll help convey to Shinji, where his words fail, that he actually wants this.
Shinjiro and Akihiko navigate their first time. Among other things.

Summary
When Akihiko thinks about it now, he realizes that it never really settled into any one image. It changed every year: what the holidays looked like, where and who he celebrated with, and how he had felt during them. There was no binding fabric, no consistency or pattern. A year passed and something new would flip over like the next card in a rolling index.
He doesn’t know why he’s thinking about all this. In his experience, nothing good comes from ruminating on the past. And yet he keeps finding his mind wandering, and his sense wandering with it.
It’s a bad habit.
Akihiko and his complicated feelings about the holidays.
