“She needs you more than she needs us,” Kidd says, jerking his thumb at the girl Killer is still silently restraining.
“Maybe,” Luffy says lightly—everything sounds light, from Luffy, unless he's really concentrating—looking over at Killer and the girl. Killer wonders what Luffy sees when he looks at any of their kind like that, given Luffy was bound to defiant freedom and that is something none of them truly have, anymore. “Probably,” Luffy amends. “I don’t know if I can help her, though,” he says, softly.
“Shit,” Kidd snarls before turning to the girl and grabbing her chin with his flesh and blood hand to force her to look at him. “Listen to me, girl. This? This rage? It’ll fucking consume you if you let it; it will eat everything, and there will be nothing else left. Your sister’s best friend? She’ll be gone, worse than dead.”
When the world believes in you so much you become something more, you can let that more consume everything you were and be snuffed out like a flame extinguishing itself having consumed its substrate entirely. Or you can learn to bend what you must be to preserve some measure of who you were.

What happens when yena and niq faceplant into an epic Pacific Rim fanfic, rewatch the movie for the first time in 12 years, look at canon’s conception of military organisations, geography, linear time, and the logistics of how one hauls massive amounts of metal across large distances and then cry. A lot.
They then throw almost all of that in the bin in favour of something that, y’know, bears at least a passing acquaintance with how humans and physics work in our world, while writing a bunch of backstory about the fucking ADORABLE Becket boys as well as several related-but-distinct post-canon timelines that detail what the aftermath of cancelling the apocalypse actually looks like.

Stiles went to college, grew up, fell in love with an awesome boyfriend, is now working on his Masters degree, and is actually quite happy and fulfilled. Derek ends up back in his life basically by accident, and everyone is confused but actually in no way miserable.
Because everyone in this series is an actual grown-ass adult who attempts to use their words, even when they're bad (or awkward) at it. Communication! It's a thing.

The least that Lambert can do for them now is to bury them.]
Lambert heads up to Kaer Morhen to pick up the pieces after a pogrom decimates the School of the Wolf. He expects to be greeted by nothing but ghosts — but instead, he runs into a familiar face.
