He was only 17 when he joined the Crimean Knights. It was the minimum age for enlistment. Oscar had always said he wanted to enlist. He has memories of Boyd’s mother wryly suggesting it was only so that Oscar could be around horses all day. Five-year-old Oscar complained and shook his head, spouting off something about grandeur and protecting the weak, but even as a young adult those words rang in his head occasionally as he spent hour after hour diligently tending to the inhabitants of the stables.
