    Summary

“Herr Strauss,” Arthur greets, teeth gritted, plastering a fake smile onto his face. “How goes your money lendin’ business?”

“Ah, Herr Morgan.” Strauss turns on the rock, beady eyes swivelling around to peer up at him behind his spectacles. “It’s going swimmingly. As I like to say, Herr Morgan, there exists not a debtor who is unable to pay, only a debtor who is unwilling to pay. A little prod is all that is needed!”

Arthur sighs. “Okay,” he says, ready to confront the inevitable. “Well, do you need me to… prod anyone for you?”

“Ah! Not right now, Herr Morgan, not right now,” Strauss says. Arthur looks at him, confused. “As I said, swimmingly! I gave Herr Smith a list of debtors a few days back and he’s managed to get the money from all of them. Efficient work, that man does, though that leaves none for you, I’m afraid.”

    ── ⋅⋅⋅ ──

In which Arthur dies, lives, and almost dies again at the shock of it. And he swears that this time, in his future, he will not make the mistakes of his past.

And little does he know, he's not in this alone.

Kaveh was quiet for a beat before speaking again, a slight hesitation in his voice. “...You ever think about your soulmate?”

Alhaitham’s hands stilled again. Only briefly.

    “Sometimes,” he said. “Not often.”

Kaveh smiled faintly. “If I had a string, I think I’d follow it. Even if it led somewhere scary.”

Soulmate Loss Syndrome (SLS) is a medical condition many experience when losing their soulmate. A clinical term for something far crueller than heartbreak. Nausea. Nerve damage. Insomnia. Phantom pain. Emotional collapse. It was dying without the courtesy of death.

And on another note, Alhaitham can see the red string of fate - something no one else could do. He also decided - before meeting them - that he needed to kill this new roommate he got assigned.

    Summary

Aventurine had no idea why Commodore Ratio would be at the Tavern, dressed down to pass off as a lowly pirate, playing cards with random criminals. He must be after some sort of information, but even then, why not turn to his 'dear friend'?

When he leant his weight over Ratio’s back, arms folded over his shoulders, the rest of the players at the table fell utterly silent. To Ratio’s credit, he didn’t even flinch. He lowered his cards and partially turned around on his stool to stare back at Aventurine, unimpressed. “Do you intend to stay perched on my shoulders like an obedient parrot, or are you going to share with us what is it that you want, Captain?”

    “You.”

    Summary

He couldn't avoid the doctor forever. These past couple of weeks, Aventurine had been living in the fantasy that even if everything else had become grey, Ratio would stay normal; the only light in his life. Even when everything else was as grim as death, those eyes of dawn would still shine. No matter what emotion adorned them, they had always been the lighthouse guiding Aventurine on these uncharted waters.

They would always be his home. The dawn after a long, hopeless night.

And now, there was Veritas Ratio, in all his handsomeness. Except, he was grey.

    And his eyes—
