Abram kept walking, he didn’t know how long he’d been walking. But he’d seen someone tear out of the city like they had somewhere they could actually go, so he’d been following their tire tracks. They had to lead somewhere, to a farm, to a bunker, or maybe nowhere. It didn’t matter to Abram, not really. He just kept walking.
Abram hadn't expected to survive this long. But it had been several months since the beginning, when the angels of death had fallen from the sky. Abram had never been so free. He'd never been so alone.

Azriel had only really ever seen Eris Vanserra in pictures; from years ago, viewed years ago. Really it was a near miracle he recognized the man. But he knew Eris’ face from a time when Mor had been so hurt and Azriel had been in such a dark place. Way back when Azriel had raged at mere pictures of Eris online, now seeing him in the flesh he was struck by how gentle the male seemed. He stood relaxed, one hip cocked gently to the side to compensate for the shoulder bag hanging off him. The sunlight coming through the floor to ceiling windows in the shop made his silky, curly red hair shimmer and his knee length, thin overlay swayed around him as he twisted. It took Azriel a minute to realize Eris was now watching him in turn.

If they all wore black armbands and ate midnight lunch as if it were a normal meal and took naps together in the sun; well, who had to know.
