“You’re being meaaaan.” Luke pouts, so very, obviously, completely, and irrevocably sloshed.
“I’m not, I’m looking after you! I’m being a good boyfriend, making sure you’re hydrated!” Marius pouts back at him.
“You’re being a trickster, swapping my drink. You, you… conniving… conniving something.”
“You could think of the word ‘conniving’ but couldn’t think of any noun?”
“See, you’re being mean! You’re bullying me! My own boyfriend is bullying me!” Luke exclaims, pointing at Marius with his arm outstretched like he’s just seen him do a crime.

It’s the tail end of the annual NXX Investigation Team Christmas Party, and Marius von Hagen has the unenviable task of convincing his drunk detective boyfriend to please get some water in his system.

Sunlight framed him like a masterpiece; the sandy brown locks like the beach he lived upon, the sharp eyes of a dissident with the glint of a dagger’s edge, the calloused hands of an inventor working towards both glory and ruin. He seemed like he was meant for the sun.
This boy grew into a man, then grew into the strong frame of a mortal, which was never very strong at all. There was only so much a man was capable of, after all. He was somebody. He was nobody. He was fallible and flawed, like all men were, and under the harsh light of the day, one could tell just how fragile he was.
So it was under moonlight where his heart shone brightest.

Summary
“A boyfriend!” Luke seethes, pacing back and forth. Marius watches him do his rounds at the foot of the bed like he’s a prowling guard dog. “Nina’s too young to have a boyfriend! How are we sure he isn’t some… some jumped-up dickwad?”
“Have some faith in our daughter’s taste, would you?” Marius tells him calmly, looking over his reading glasses from where he’s already reclined on the bed with a book. “With how adorably lovestruck she sounded when she talked about Oliver, it doesn’t seem like he’s a jumped-up dickwad.”
“Oliver.” Luke hisses with vitriol, as if he’s saying the name of a murderer and not the name of a gangly teenage boy. The sheer venom in his voice makes Marius bark out a laugh.

Nina—Luke and Marius’ wonderful beautiful amazing sixteen year old daughter—announces that she has a boyfriend. Marius is happy for her! Luke, on the other hand, goes into an overprotective spiral. Typical.

Summary
Agent Angler circles him slowly, her eyes scanning over Luke’s entire body from head to toe.
“You’ve obviously got a nice body, but that will only get you so far, Raven,” she tells him, stepping forward, closer into Luke’s space. “Sex is no different from pulling the trigger. Like all skills in our arsenal, you’ll have to train hard if you want to excel.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Luke nods, trying and failing to ignore the feeling of wanting to get away, wanting to pull free from the scrutiny of her gaze.
She grabs his chin unceremoniously, and Luke has to hold back his flinch. Her perfectly manicured nails bite into his skin, and she turns his head from side to side, inspecting him and his features as if he’s a prized show dog.
“But you do have that innocent look to you,” Angler says softly, her lips slanted down in a slight frown. “They’ll eat that up.”

"Think of it like a game,” Jerome tilts his head, his sickly sweet smile making his eyes crinkle. "And the game is this: if you want this dose…you'll have to get on your knees for it."
Rage immediately surges forth in Luke's mind, red hot and snarling. He roughly pushes Jerome against the wall, pressing his arm against Jerome’s throat but the bastard has the audacity to bark out a laugh. Jerome doesn’t even looked phased. He looks at Luke with amusement twinkling at his eyes, as if he’s entertained that his lab rat is biting the hand that feeds.

Corin tries her very best not to remember what she saw that fateful day all those weeks ago. “Lighter, Wise said you liked the noodles at Lumina Square. You should try the noodle shop just in front of ours before you head back! Maybe Wise can take you.”
“Are you secretly helping General Chop promote a new menu?” Wise asks, scrutinizing her awfully blinding grin through a frown. “And I just ate there yesterday with Ben, so I’m good.”
“Ben’s a good friend of ours,” Belle tells Lighter quickly. “He’s a bear.”
“Uh. Cool…?” says Lighter.
“Anyway, once you’re done with Lighter’s tapes why don’t you two go hang out together!” She gives Wise a look.
“I’m still watching the shop, though?”
The look hardens. “Yes, but business is slow today.”
In which Belle is convinced her brother and Lighter should get together, and rope the ladies of the Sons of Calydon into setting them up. Wise is convinced he isn't, in fact, dating the Champion, until suddenly he is.

Summary
Luke thought this would be just another mission—an easy infiltration, a bit of seduction, get the intel, get out. It’s the kind of work he’s done before, the kind he’s good at, even if it’s been a while. Seduction and subtle manipulations weren’t new to him, and neither was walking away from it all untouched—or so he told himself. The only big difference this time is the fact that the team behind him is different, maybe not as impersonal as he hoped. But Luke was always prepared to sell the illusion regardless—the staged smiles and calculated touches. Watching his back have never entailed an on-field intervention before.

“Didn’t go well again?”
Marius sighs. He’s laying across Luke’s floor, still in a suit with his tie loose around his neck: so comfortable in Luke's space, as he should be, and looking as inexplicably attractive as ever. “I don’t know what I’m doing wrong,” he whines. “I'm being as suave and charming as usual. Maybe even moreso!”
“It's not your fault, Marius. Don’t blame yourself,” Luke consoles him.
And it really, truly isn’t. It’s not Marius’s fault he never makes it to a second date — it’s Luke’s, and he can't find it in himself to feel bad about it.
