Because Hak was now touching her, intimately. He was now no longer surrounded by the corpses of dead men. He was no longer cold. Her warmth engulfed him, melted him from within.
He feared the sound of rain. He shivered at the roar of thunder. He was in the midst of a battle as he helplessly watched many of his men get swept away by the flood.
He wasn’t allowed to dream. Yet for a moment, just a moment, he wanted to dream where he was lost within her warm depths.
