Summary
“Wouldn’t you call an attorney without integrity ‘cheap’?” Attrorny Yoon enunciated each word with deliberate clarity, his gaze cutting, reprimanding, and fixed sharply on Hyo-Min. The firmness of his tone left little room for argument, yet his eyes held a depth that made the accusation feel heavier than the words themselves.
Hyo-Min’s chest tightened; her fingers clutched the strap of her bag with a quiet, anxious pressure. “I don’t have a close relationship with him,” she replied quickly, her words spilling out with a mixture of defense and embarrassment. Her cheeks warmed as the words escaped, a flush spreading across her face that she could not hide. The shame of being misunderstood and the sting of the accusation collided in her chest, leaving her momentarily breathless.
At her wits’ end, more than a little upset, she struggled to maintain composure. Her eyes flicked away briefly, caught somewhere in the elevator’s dim light, then back to him—half-expecting judgment, half-hoping for understanding that would not come.
“What did I just see, then?” he said, the undertone of his voice shifting ever so slightly, a darker, almost buried current threading through the words.
