I’ve been a huge Harry Potter fan for decades. During last year’s reread of the series, it suddenly hit me that I was getting close to the same age as Severus Snape was when he died.
Realizing how young he was, especially at the beginning, made me view his story completely differently, and I became obsessed with him. I know, late — to the party.
Also, my depression meds kicked in at the beginning of the year and so now I have like 800,000 words of a complete rewrite of the Harry Potter series, which I interrupted with a 240,000 word alt-universe story about teen Snape in the Triwizard Tournament. Because why not?
I needed a love interest for Snape, and I like Herbology, so I re-fitted Pomona Sprout to suit the tone of the task for the prequel. The more I wrote her, the more I loved her, and she is now as important to me as Snape is. I had fun coming up with a backstory for her, and a family, while keeping her essentials.
Anyway, so please enjoy. I don’t know how long it will take me, but just FYI, after the Prequel I have Snape & Sprout-centric rewrites of HP books 1-7, and a post-Battle of Hogwarts story in the works. And a couple more “Princeroot” stories with Snape and Sprout.
I also discovered fic fests. So I will try to have more bite-sized one-shots soon, too. :)
