[SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 2 OF SEASON 2]
“I don’t know if—” Eve starts. “I – I mean—” but her fingers are already flirting with the edge of the bandage, scrabbling at the adhesive, peeling it up. Villanelle sucks in a slow breath through her teeth.
“There you go,” she whispers, “good girl,” and Eve slips two fingers in under the bandage.

Summary
“What the shit is this, Konstantin?” Villanelle hisses into the phone during one of their twice-monthly check-ins over a secure line. “I’m the best you have and you have me stuck in some MI-5 basement doing paperwork?”
“Listen to me, Villanelle,” Konstantin says soothingly, “You are the best we have, that’s why we entrusted you--”
“To shuffle papers?” Villanelle demands.
“For this deep-cover mission in the heart of MI-5,” Konstantin says.

“And I meant what I said before you shot me. I’m not scared of you anymore.”
“If you don’t want me to scare you, then why did you look for me? Why are you here?”
“Because you’re you,” Eve says shortly, “and I’m me. Where the fuck else do we belong?”
Villanelle stares at her for a moment, rapt.
“That was really touching,” she says then, placing a sentimental hand to her heart. “Like something from Winnie-the-Pooh.”
“Yeah, well,” says Eve, “you know me and my good heart.”
“I do,” Villanelle agrees, pleased. “And you know me.”
“The biggest asshole I’ve ever met in my life.”

“Fuck!” Eve screams up into the night sky, then turns and starts stomping away like a raging Muppet. As a moment, it really has no poetry.
“That went better the first time,” Villanelle mutters to herself. She discovers right away that it’s too loud a feeling to keep quiet. She shouts, “This goodbye is terrible!”
“Eat a dick, Villanelle!” Eve yells.
“I’ll never forget you, either, my love!” Villanelle cries back.
Eve holds up her middle finger as she walks away. This time she doesn’t turn.
A man passing by gives Villanelle a ‘what the fuck?’ look. The old Villanelle would have pushed him off the bridge just for being annoying.
“Lovers’ quarrel,” she says instead, magnanimously. “She’ll be back.”
He gives her an ‘I didn’t ask’ look that is really judgy. Basically begging to get murdered. Lucky for him that she’s grown, that she is becoming something new.
--
“I don’t want it to happen once. I want it to happen always.”“Oh, because that’s practical,” Eve snaps. “A 24/7 scissoring frenzy.”
“You don’t have a very realistic understanding of lesbian sex. That makes me sad.”
“Well, then how about you teach me?”
They stare at each other. The universe wobbles at the awkwardness.
“That was lame,” Villanelle says, redoing her robe sash.
--
“You killed my best friend in front of me,” she says, so quiet all of a sudden. “You made me watch him die.”Villanelle shakes Eve’s hands off. She folds her arms, trying to warm herself. She thinks about saying I’m sorry. “You only remember that when it suits you.”
--
“See?” Eve says, her eyes burning. “There’s no way this could ever last.”She turns and stalks out, stumbling over a plate of pizza crusts as she goes.
“Not with that attitude,” Villanelle mutters.
--
“I don’t care what you do.”“Oof. Somebody’s wearing her delusion pants today. At least they make your butt look cute.”
--
“What are you doing?” Villanelle asks, like they are friends.“Plucking my eyebrows.”
“Ouch.”
“I dunno, I’ve always kind of liked the way it feels.”
“Has anyone ever told you you have masochistic tendencies?”
“They haven’t, actually. I should probably get that checked out.”
“No kidding.”
