Chapter Text
Donghyuck opened his eyes again and looked down at his clothes, realizing they weren’t his, but someone else’s. Mark’s.
This is too goddamn early in the morning for this.
Donghyuck grabbed his phone and checked the date, it was a Friday, meaning he had school. As much as I want to believe that was all a dream, these are not my clothes and it was all way too real to be not true.
Scratching his head, Donghyuck threw his phone aside and got up out of bed. He quickly washed up and dressed himself school uniform before heading downstairs.
“Mom?”
“Well I’m not the maid,” The first thing Donghyuck’s friends say whenever they meet his mom for the first time is, “Now I know where that attitude comes from,” and Donghyuck simply nods because he knows. He loves his mom, but it can be really annoying sometimes when she gives you sass about you giving sass to her. Donghyuck got used to it by the end of junior high though.
“Right,” Donghyuck rolled his eyes when his mom wasn’t looking.
“Hurry and eat, you’ll be late. I can only drive you up until the hospital today, you’ll have to walk the rest.”
“Okay,” Donghyuck sat down and quickly ate.

“See ya,” Donghyuck got out of the car and walked up the hill. He barely made it to homeroom on time, thank god their teacher decided to arrive a little later than usual.
“Hey Hyuck, you look dead.”
“When does he not?”
“Want some chocolate?”
Donghyuck’s friends Renjun, Jeno, and Jaemin were all in the same homeroom at him. They knew each other ever since elementary school, the memory of Jeno spilling strawberry milk on him and crying about it replays vividly inside his head. H
“Just had a really, really, really weird dream,” Donghyuck sighed and took a chocolate from Jaemin’s “Candy Bag”.
“Don’t you always have a weird dream?”
“Yeah, but this one felt real. It felt like it really happened.”
“What was it about?”
“I woke up in the dream on a bed and there was like a talking cat with magical powers and then a cute ass vampire boy showed up with the cutest smile and then I found out I was 3000 years into the future and there were mythical creatures. Oh and I got attacked by some vampires, but the cute vampire boy saved me. He also can cook some bomb ass food,” Donghyuck went on and recalled what he remembers about the “dream”. His friends stared at him like he was on something.
“That must have been some dream,” Jeno laughed lightly, patting Donghyuck’s shoulder, “Well, you always wanted something exciting to happen right?”
“Even if it was a dream, it had you thinking it was real,” Renjun chipped in.
“It felt real, I’m telling you guys it wasn’t just a normal dream. I went to sleep wearing a black hoodie and Adidas trainers, then I woke up in a bed in the same clothes I went to sleep in and the vampire guy told me he found me lying on the side of the road passed out. Then later that day he gave me his clothes to change into which were some sweats and I woke up in my room in those clothes,” Donghyuck said all in one breath.
Jeno and Jaemin looked at each other with unreadable expressions and looked at Renjun who was staring at Donghyuck.
“Maybe you’re hallucinating. There’s no way something like that is real. You dreamed of yourself in the future? Yeah right, and vampires and talking cats?” Renjun scoffed, not believing Donghyuck.
“I wish it was a dream,” Donghyuck said sadly, putting his head down on the desk.
“It’s okay, Hyuck. Tomorrow’s the weekend, why don’t we go out somewhere with Jisung and Chenle?” Jaemin ruffled Donghyuck’s hair, earning a pout.
“Yeah, sure.”
Throughout the day, Donghyuck would space out and end up in his own world, thinking about the “dream” he had. Nothing made sense and it just frustrated Donghyuck. Maybe Renjun is right and he should just forget about it. It is only a dream, it’s not like it’s going to happen again. However, Donghyuck couldn’t Forget how he was attacked by vampires and was also saved by one. The warmth of Mark’s back and his hands were all too striking to simply forget.
Donghyuck sighed for the hundredth time that day. He shuffled through his music library and played a Dean song, engrossed in his thoughts as he walked home from school.
Thinking about it simply, if it really was just a dream, then it shouldn’t happen again. But if it isn’t a dream, then it might happen again. There was no solid proof that everything that happened to Donghyuck was or wasn’t a dream. There are no studies that show vampires actually exist. They’re all fairy tales and folklore.
When Donghyuck got home, he dropped his bag on the edge of his desk and plopped down on his bed. Turning to his side, Donghyuck fished out his phone from his pocket and opened up a tab in Google Chrome.
Do vampires exist in real life?
Can you dream yourself into the future?
Can dreams feel so real, you think it actually happened but it didn’t?
Can you dream the same dream twice?
Can you dream a continuation of the last dream you had?
Whatever Donghyuck typed into the Google search bar, everything that popped up only gave him vague and indefinite answers.
Donghyuck sighed again and closed the tab, plugging his phone in to charge. He was home alone at the moment, his parents still at work, so Donghyuck changed out of his uniform and went downstairs to the kitchen.
Searching through the fridge for something to eat, Donghyuck was reminded of Mark’s cooking. He could still taste the savory, yet sweet flavor of the meat in his mouth. Normally you don’t remember something so trivial like food in a dream, right?
Donghyuck had the sudden urge to eat it again so he took out some beef and vegetables he had in the fridge. Donghyuck was never really a big foodie and wasn’t picky about anything. He didn’t really have anything he liked in particular either, so the fact that he was craving Mark’s cooking after only having it once said something. And that something was something weird. The clues were somewhat piecing together the more Donghyuck thought about it. There was no way food in a dream could have such a distinct taste that you could remember a day later and crave for.
Donghyuck plated the stir-fried beef and vegetables and hesitantly tasted it. Of course, he wasn’t expecting anything since he didn’t know the exact recipe so he wasn’t extremely disappointed. It tasted alright, edible at least. Donghyuck wasn’t much of a cook either, so his skills were subpar compared to Renjun or Jaemin who cooked for fun and built a hobby out of it.
After dinner, Donghyuck went back to his room and took a shower. He changed into a distinct outfit that would surely catch anyone’s attention. He was wearing a bright pink dinosaur shirt he got when he was in elementary school, the size was a little small but it surprisingly still fit. The pants weren’t any less damaging to the eyes, it was a neon yellow color that would’ve turned anyone blind if light reflected it. How Donghyuck got these kinds of clothes is a mystery to him. A vague memory of weird neighbors and family friends popped up inside his head as he stared at himself in the mirror.
I went to sleep in Mark’s bed in the dream and woke up in my bed, so if I go to sleep in my bed, then I should wake up in Mark’s bed just like last time. And if I do wake up in Mark’s bed in these clothes, it will definitely mean that it isn’t a dream.
Donghyuck turned off the bathroom light and walked back into his room. The last of the light from the sunset fading away behind the horizon. The sky was orange and blue, it was as pretty as the scene Donghyuck saw at the park in his “dream”. Nothing could compare to that
